BELONGING: IDENTITY & LANDSCAPE NARRATIVE

LAF FELLOWSHIP FOR INNOVATION + LEADERSHIP

As part of the 2018-2019 Landscape Architecture Foundation's Fellowship for Innovation and Leadership, Design Virtue's owner, Maisie Hughes, interviewed DC residents of different ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities while recording their impressions of sublime landscapes. The project, which started out as a web documentary series, resulted in a call for landscape architects and other designers to test new models of community engagement and find a landscape of common ground.

BELONGING [ EPISODE 1]:DC’s Sublime Landscapes explores the role that identity plays in experiencing five awe-inspiring landscapes spread throughout DC neighborhoods. The film challenges designers to examine their process for recreating landscapes and invites residents to seek and embrace the sublime. Episode 1 will be available Summer 2019.
